Taipei Toy Festival 2011

I have just came back from Taipei Toy Festival 2011 yesterday afternoon. It was a blast! The best toy fair I have attended so far. The participants were great, the visitors were awesome and Taipei was a great city to be enjoyed.

Together with Plastic Culture, Solidboy v2.0 was officially launched in this event. I am honored to see how people really enjoy and appreciate Solidboy as an art toy. If you are one of the visitors of our booth, I would like to say a big gigantic thank you!

See more pictures on Bismarck Toy Lab facebook page.

See you next year!

Solidboy V2.0

SOLIDBOY has travelled the universe as a blank mask for centuries before he discovered the life of humans on earth. As life turns into memories, out of curiosity SOLIDBOY began to devour human memories into images.. which then was portrayed on its' mask. Ever since, the face is no longer blank again. A cheerful memory results in a flowery pattern mask, while a traumatic memories makes it looks disturbed. The journey to find the perfect memory begins!

At this point in time, SOLIDBOY met a victorious warrior that just came back from war.

The pattern for Solidboy V2.0 is more aggressive compared to V1.0. Since the concept of Solidboy is about a masked spectre that roam around feeding on memories, I want to show how different memories can alter the look of Solidboy.

All details on the other body parts are totally different too. While V1.0 got floral pattern on his arms, V2.0 is now bearing a batik pattern called "Parang Rusak"which mean Broken Knife. Traditionally this pattern is only worn by the proud Javanese warriors who came back from their glorious battle.

Maintaining the eco-friendly idealism, all Solidboy are made with recycle wood. Every wood block that is used to make Solidboy are hand picked to maintain the quality of the wood. Unlike vinyl or plastic toys which remain the same for years, as an organing material wood wiill give you different look from year to year. You could see how V1.0 is nore more red-ish compared to V2.0. What we see here is a 100% nature at work. I'm sure any collector will love to see how the wood reveal it's inner beauty as it age.

Prime Post

After much consideration I have decided to start this new blog as a spin-off from my previous blog Saltnpaper . While I'm still going to share something that is toy related, the difference between this 2 blogs is that Saltnpaper will mainly still talk about my paper toy character line while Bismarck will cover mostly about my designer toy line.

These days I'm a bit busy preparing for the Taipei Toy Festival 2011, with the help of Plastic Culture we are going to launch a continuum of the previous Solidboy. Previously I did an ultra limited 5 pieces of the first batch of Solidboy with the intricate Javanese carving. This time around the second batch will be produced to 50 pieces.

The second batch will be called Solidboy v2.0. Maintaining the intricate carving details, Solidboy v2.0 will reveal a darker look compared to the first Solidboy. It will also come with a great packaging and also proof of authenticity made from brass plate.

Just to wrap up Solidboy's previous progress from my old blog , these are some WIP photos.

This is just to give you a clear view of what Indonesian craftmen can do.

The very first prototype of Solidboy, I would say this is v0.1

After gathering some feedback, I decided to change the face carving and make the line deeper.
